Whether you’re shopping or donating, you’re giving!
Everyday our trucks hit the road, traveling throughout Long Island to pick up donations from generous supporters. Many items that you may consider discarding could be donated to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and ultimately used to help someone in need. We help you turn your used furniture, clothing, cars and other donated materials into instruments of hope.
Once we collect your used goods, they are either given away to people in need or sold at an affordable price at our thrift stores. The proceeds from our stores help maintain the year-round programs and services we offer to Long Islanders in need. We deliver furniture, clothing, and other household items to people who have experienced such dreadful events as a natural disaster, eviction or foreclosure, or in some cases domestic violence. In these cases, the family is usually forced to move abruptly and therefore need help acquiring household items to get settled. However, we also provide items to low-income families who simply cannot afford them.
Often times during home visits, Vincentians discover that the family does not have furniture to sit on, they do not have a kitchen table to eat on, or beds for their children to sleep in. In these cases, a voucher is provided to the family which they can redeem for specific goods at our stores.
