Long Island is one of the country’s wealthiest regions; consequently, it hides the needs of its less fortunate residents very well. There are hundreds of thousands of people, including children, adults, elderly, disabled persons, and veterans who live below or well within the poverty level and make just enough to get by.
Any unforeseen circumstance, an illness, layoff, or natural disaster as we witnessed with Superstorm Sandy, can send a seemingly stable family spiraling into financial crisis. When this happens, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul works diligently to provide comprehensive solutions to help people get back on their feet. We offer programs and services that resolve temporary hardships, and also those that support an individual or family for a longer period of time until they are again self-supporting. With a helping hand, we believe anyone can have a better quality of life.
We do not discriminate based on race, creed or background. We help anyone who demonstrates a genuine need.
Will You Help Us Help Others?
We challenge you to get involved. Be a beacon of light in a dark sea. You can do something as small as donating your gently used goods, or something as big as becoming a Vincentian volunteer; donating your time, treasure and talents to the cause of abating poverty on Long Island.
You will be amazed at how helping others has a way of transforming you. Witnessing the challenges of those much less fortunate and their strength to persevere nevertheless is one of the top reasons our volunteers continue to donate their time to serve others.
