St. Vincent de Paul Disaster Relief Program
In the event of a natural disaster, what is often most needed are funds to rebuild the communities impacted by these devastating events. Therefore, anytime there is a natural disaster around the world, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in the Diocese of Rockville Centre embarks on a major initiative to raise funds for the National Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s Emergency Aid and Disaster Relief Program, which combines our funds raised with local funds from all St. Vincent de Paul councils throughout the United States. It sends much needed financial assistance to the areas and conferences most affected.
What sets the Society of St. Vincent de Paul apart from other organizations that give disaster relief is that we give the funds to the St. Vincent de Paul conferences within the communities, who know best where and how the money should be spent to make good use of the funds. Our disaster relief efforts, therefore, directly help those most in need of financial assistance in their efforts to rebuild their communities- and rebuild the lives of those who have been impacted by the disaster.
Numerous communities affected by hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes, flooding and other natural disasters have been, and continue to be, helped by the Society. The swift and effective response of Vincentians will ensure the rebuilding of these communities and resident’s lives. There are never administrative or start up charges, which ensures that 100% of every dollar raised goes toward the relief assistance specified.
